March Newsletter

Well, the weather does not look much like tennis weather but the season has started, plus it is time to do your membership renewal. Claire has sent out invites and will create two system reminders to ensure that you do not forget and miss the early discount by paying on time.
Paying on time will save you between £20 and £5 depending on the membership type. Would you believe every year Claire is still chasing people well into the autumn! Make her day - do it now!

Key Dates:

Wimbledon Ballot - this will take place on the Saturday 25th April at 4pm.

AGM - this will take place straight after the Wimbledon Ballot.

Great British Tennis Weekend or as it is now called the Nature Valley Tennis Weekend is set for Sunday 17th May at the club. This is a super day at the club with the aim to get friends and family involved in trying out some fun tennis events and of course the BBQ! It is open to members and most importantly anyone you know who might be tempted to give tennis a try if only for the day! It starts at 11am and goes through to 2pm. One for the diary.

Finals Day - the culmination of our summer tournament is an annual finals day which this year will be Sunday 13th September - PLEASE note one week later than usual. Again, a brilliant event with junior and senior finalists slogging it out for the coveted prizes with plenty of food and stuff. Lyn will be looking to get the draw done by May 1st 2020. So, look out for the draw and give it a go, a great way to meet new people and try out your stunning shots!

We are excited to be starting our new venture, Walking Tennis the week the school term begins after Easter, more information to follow very shortly.

Safety Matters
The recent high winds have played some havoc with a significant tree at the side of the courts shedding a 4-tonne limb. Fortunately, Lyn and Sarah were soon aware and a good team effort meant that Keith had it organised for clearance in a couple of days. It did mean the club closing on the Tuesday as they used a 50-tonne crane and four men to shift it. Overall close to £3,000 which we may be able to get back from the insurers.

In the same weekend we have had part of the veranda roof come down and three of the fence poles at the back of court four snap and bring up the corner of the court. This will be covered by insurance.

Finally, on Saturday morning we had a complaint from a neighbour that cars had parked on the pavement outside the club, blocking the pavement. Would Saturday morning visitors please either ensure their car is parked on the road not the pavement, or alternatively park in the village and walk up to the club. The car park behind the Red Lion can be used.

Tennis Leagues
15 junior teams playing this winter - thanks very much to the parent captains who do so much to organise the kids games.
We have three mens and three ladies teams in the summer league this year which start on the 1st May. Anyone interested in playing talk to David (phone 01275 332885 or tonkin.dj@gmail.com) and Lyn (phone 07967 597408 or florincottage@gmail.com). Men's practice night on Monday at 7.30pm to 9.30pm at Chew Valley School or ladies at BSTC on Wednesday night at 6.00pm to 8.00pm.

So, that's all for now.......

Oh, do your membership subs!

Thanks
