BISHOP SUTTON BROWNING OLD GITS TOURNAMENT 2008

A grandstand view of the centre court for the old gits
It took a bit of persuasion by Bridget ‘Ironfist’ Rylance to get the Old Gits on court but once there they showed a determination to beat the rain that would have daunted younger players. The first rounds were very close with three ladies accruing 20 games each and 4 men with 11. After some interesting compromises we ended with 8 semi finalists who battled to the end. Once again Geoff Jones won the men’s title with his usual aplomb, outplaying Chris Rylance in the final. Charly Dando won the ladies after a final tie- breaker with Bridget now ‘Rustyfist’ Rylance.
Lynne Browning organized the food and it was a fantastic spread – where did all those puddings go? Chris Rylance ran the bar and the Pimms went down a treat. The prizes were presented by Georgina, Lynne and Mike Browning’s eldest daughter, who was ably assisted by her children Eric and Alice. Altogether £117 was raised for the clubhouse fund on a day when most sensible ‘old gits’ were at home by the fire.
