I am still trying to get my head around the new Wimbledon dates - for years it has always been a standard response to the question - When is Wimbledon on? - "last week in June first week in July". No longer - so those that have been lucky enough to draw tickets please make sure that you have paid for them and you put them in the diary properly. If you have not had an email from Wimbledon about your tickets, then please talk to Sarah-Jane (sjsj246@gmail.com) quickly.

Tree Maintenance - we had the trees surveyed at the entrance to the club and unfortunately there is a bit of work to do to make sure that they are safe and healthy going forward. Starting potentially this week you will see that we have a contractor in doing some tree surgery. They will be using effective traffic management but please take extra care swinging into and out of the tennis club while the work is ongoing.

Club Improvements - in the near future you will see some work going on at the club. To provide more room in the club house and also to improve its appearance we are going to relocate the coach's cupboard. The men's toilet will be converted into a store room which will accommodate the coaching equipment and potentially give us more storage space. The coaches’cupboard will be taken out so extending that area of the club house.
In addition we are going to extend the terrace so that it does not drop off immediately by the pillars, and then step it down to the front of the courts to replace the grass area which unfortunately has become a thoroughfare and a mud patch. These works are likely to be within the next month so please be careful around the works, and also for parents please ask your children to be extra careful around the works and be very careful not to tread mud into the courts.
Finally - we are still looking to improve the comfort of the club house, put in some alternative furniture and do a paint job. The committee would be very grateful for any volunteers to help with choosing the final look and perhaps eventually help spruce the club house up - if interested then please let me know dafitonk1@gmail.com

Great British Tennis Weekend - our annual open day to attract new members is set for Sunday 21st May. For those that have not been before it is a great family event with lots of varying tennis games and fun from Cardio Tennis, Beat the Coach, Fastest Serve etc combined with a great BBQ, cake and perhaps the odd glass of something! The event starts at 11 am and finishes around 2pm, so put it in the diary and invite any non-members to come and experience tennis at Bishop Sutton. As always volunteers would be welcome, so please let Lyn Jones know (florincottage@gmail.com) if you can lend a hand.

Club Tournament - the draw is now up in the clubhouse for all the keen ones who entered this year. I will also get it put onto the club website so you can get going and play the first rounds. As per usual Geoff Wembridge will have to be pretty ruthless re playing by the due date, so "don't push him". The finals day is the 10th September.

Barn Dance - our excellent social team led by Mark Hunter is building on the success of last year’s Summer Bash with one for all the club, a barn dance at the Bishop Sutton village hall with professional callers and some great food served up by our very own Jane Fowler. It is set for Saturday July 1st at 7.30pm with tickets at £20 per head and a free place when a whole table of 8 is booked. Please email Mark on mhunter@hunteraccountants.co.uk and/or register on notice board in club to secure your tickets.
